STATEMENT OF FAITH
We believe in God, the God of Adam and Eve, of Noah and of Abraham and his descendants who became the nation of Israel. In his sovereign delight, God created the cosmos and formed humans in his image. We are meant to live in full relationship with God, to delight in his glory, to obey his commands and to receive his blessings. That relationship however, was profoundly altered through the sin of man. But God, in his mercy, did not abandon mankind as was deserved. God decided to work the redemption of his people through those who would repent of their sins and earnestly seek to do his will. God created a covenant with Abraham, which he would use to bless all nations. Through the law, God declared and clarified his holiness and made clear that we could not attain holiness or a right relationship with God through our own abilities or works. Because of our sinful ways and our inability to attain holiness, we are condemned to death - to complete separation from God.
Amazingly, the God of grace, by his own choice, became man in the person of Jesus Christ. Christ, an incarnate deity, fully man and fully God, lived a perfect life on earth, and as part of God's plan, suffered and died through crucifixion on a cross. Christ mournfully, yet willingly, drank the cup full of our sins, past and future. This act, coupled with his resurrection, canceled our debt and signaled Christ's triumph over death. As a result, if we repent of our sins, believe in the saving power of Christ's sacrifice, and accept him as our Lord and Savior, we are promised eternal life. When Christ ascended, he made provision for his spirit to descend upon and indwell all who believe in him. Through the Holy Spirit, believers are granted a host of virtues and blessings including the ability to have a personal relationship with God. Those who believe in and accept Christ as their Lord and Savior are washed of past sin and reborn in his spirit and are promised that no thing or person can separate us from the love of Christ. That belief is our faith. God created us, chose us and gave us the opportunity to choose him.
Jesus Christ, by his words, actions and through his followers, has shown us how we are intended to live. We learn about him first through scripture, the inerrant word of God. God reveals himself to us through his creation and his spirit, but the final authority and standard is the Bible. In it we find the story of God's kingdom, which has been redeemed by Christ's blood but awaits full glory when Christ returns. The sin of this fallen world is still palpable, and evil is prevalent in this world. But the Holy Spirit provides the power to be more than conquerors as we act to make believers of all men. The Spirit works in us, transforming us into our created image with ever-increasing glory. While believers in Christ will continue to struggle with sin in their life, they have the means to identify it and the power to overcome it, through scripture and the Holy Spirit. With humility and gratitude, we are to be imitators of Christ by delighting in his presence and serving his will.
