  The Episcopal Church of Rwanda

We are founding members of the Province of Rwanda's joint evangelical mission with the Province of South East Asia. This new work is called the Anglican Mission in America (AMIA). Our bishop is the Rt. Rev. Thadeus "Thad" Barnum and our Presiding Bishop is Emmanuel Kolini of Rwanda. Anglican Mission in America has already been endorsed by several other Anglican bishops and even the Primate of Nigeria. Our focus is on establishing and maintaining a faithful Anglica presence here in the USA.

His goals for the Province under his care are as follows:

1. To preach and teach the people of God in a bid to make them grow in maturity and in number.
2. To carry out evangelization that promotes good relationship with God and with one another so as to unite hearts and efforts to build the Church and the Nation.
3. To ensure a healing Ministry in the wounded society of Rwanda affected by the 1994 Genocide.
4. To open gates for reconciliation among the Rwandans due to what happened in 1994.
5. To ensure spiritual empowerment of the leadership.
6. To nurture Christians into discipleship and equip them socially, physically and spiritually.
7. To enable homes and families to adequately raise and care for the children and the youth with values that will prepare them to be responsible citizens of tomorrow.
8. To empower home and family because a poor home and family life affects both the Church and the Nation.
9. To strengthen education that would help to combat ignorance among the population.

Rev. Thad Barnum

Rev. Thaddeus Rockwell (Thad) Barnum
Missionary Bishop in the Anglican Mission in America, Pawleys Island, SC

Thad attributes much of his early training and ministry to nine years (1978-87) spent at St. Paul Episcopal Church, Darien, Connecticut under the leadership and anointed preaching of the Rev. Terry Fullam. During those days, his love for expository preaching began and continues to this day. In 1987, Thad was called to plant a new church in Alliquippa, Pennsylvania- a dying mill town. During his years as rector (1987-95), Prince of Peace Episcopal Church grew to over 300 with over 30 ministries active in all facets of parish life.

During this time, Thad also served in many other capacities such as Field Education Mentor at Trinity School for Ministry, Chaplain to South American Missionary Society, Chaplain at the USAir Pittsburgh Airplane Crash site for Flight 427, and Chairman of the Mustard Seed Project which provides “Acts of Mission, Acts of Mercy in East and Central Africa.” In 1997, Thad and his wife Erilynne moved to Pawleys Island to serve as Directors of Missions at the North American Missionary Society and 1998, the two of them joined the All Saints staff. Last year they relocated to Connecticut in order to help plant a new congregation (Apostles in Fairfield) and develop a North East Region for the Anglican Mission.
